The Secondary Phase sees students through years 7 - 11 and at maximum capacity can accommodate 1200 students. Children will transfer from our Primary School but also from other Primary Schools in the area. Therefore, there is a wonderful oppurtunity to see young people develop and learn from pre-school through to 16 years old. The accommodation for the secondary phase has been designed to establish curriculum faculties for all subjects. Each faculty is led by a Head of Faculty and these are:
- Faculty of Engineering - with an Engineering Gallery and 11 Technology rooms to deliver all aspects of the technology curriculum including Computer-Aided Design, Resistant Materials, Design & Realisation, Electronics, Food Technology, Textiles Technology and Information Technology.
- Faculty of Pure & Applied Sciences - with 9 Science Laboratories and 2 Preparation rooms with 6 Mathematics rooms.
- Faculty of Communications - with a suite of 6 English rooms and 6 Modern Foreign Language rooms.
- Faculty of Creative and Performing Arts - with 3 Art rooms each specialising in a particular area of Art, 3 Music rooms with recording studio and practice rooms and all the Community Sports and Arts Faculties.
- Faculty of Humanities - with specialist rooms for History, Geography, Morals & Ethics, Business Studies and Personal Social and Health Education.
In addition to this there are:
- 4 networked ICT suites.
- 3 Restaurants serving a wide variety of food, with a focus on health eating.
- A Student Support Services Centre
- An extensive Learning Resource Centre - also open to the community.
- A 150 seat theatre and a further large school hall for assemblies and events.
- A superb Community Sports provision including heated indoor swimming pool, Health & Fitness Suite, Dance Studio, Large Sports Hall, indoor and outdoor changing rooms as well as extensive external pitches and netball/tennis courts.
All teaching spaces are equipped with ICT with many rooms having interactive whiteboards. There are laptops also available for pupils to use in their lessons and for independent learning. The entire campus is leading edge in ICT with an online curriculum and all teaching resources are available to students.
The secondary phase of HLC is a specialist Engineering college and has been designed with stunning facilities to deliver this exciting dimension of the curriculum to the pupils and provide opportunities for the community linking with the local industry.
