SEN at Hadley Learning Community Karen Richards, Special Educational Needs (Primary Phase) |
Early identification of Special Educational Needs is key to success in planning effective provision and, wherever possible, closing the learning gap for children with additional needs. From Nursery through into Secondary, our learning community is an all inclusive school that values its diverse range of Students. In the Primary Phase we liaise closely with parents as children start school with us, working in partnership to ensure that we have enough information to provide our children with the best start possible. Early concerns are flagged with our SENCO so that all staff involved with a particular child are aware of any additional needs. As a result we are able to put systems in place to support every pupil individually and it is this focus on individual provision that enables all our students to achieve to their full potential.
Our well-trained, friendly staff offer a range of support from one to one individual teaching either within the classroom or as a withdrawal intervention, through small group working and into whole class support where appropriate. Each Primary Phase class has its own full-time TA and children with Statements of Special Educational Needs are allocated individual Special Support Assistants who are able to get to know the children very quickly and therefore support the teachers with assessing and planning for individual needs. This ability to cater for all learners is highlighted by the range of individual Student needs, from moderate learning difficulties, physical difficulties, acute medical support needs and social, communication and language difficulties.
HLC has created a large dedicated team of staff who cater for Students with a Statement and those on School Action and School Action plus. The team is headed by our SENCO, Miss Karen Richards who manages the teaching staff in their planning and delivery of SEN provision as well as a team of Special Support Assistants to support learning. In addition to this team we also have two non teaching, Student Support Managers, (SSMs) who work in close partnership with the SEN team to plan, co-ordinate and facilitate outside support from various Local Authority and private agencies.
We support our SEN Students by making sure that they have the right curriculum and the right support staff in place to ensure they achieve their full potential. These areas are complimented with high quality teaching and learning and the use of data to track individual performance. We recognise that working in partnership with all stakeholders is vital in the success of any learner and we plan and share whole class and individual Provision Maps which offer specific targets to support progress and guidance on how to deliver to a wide variety SEN needs.
