Welcome to the Early Years Unit

The Early Years Unit has a 64 place Nursery class (part time) and two 30 place Reception Classes offering high quality Early Years Education to children drawn predominantly from the primary catchment area.

The Nursery Class works in close partnership and shares a qualified teacher with the private provider, ABC Nurseries. Also working in the Nursery class are three Early Years Teaching Assistants and a Bilingual Teaching Assistant. In each Reception Class there is a Teacher and Teaching Assistant with the timetabled support of the Bilingual Assistant who works across the unit. The classrooms are large bright and airy with interactive whiteboards and mini suites of computers opening onto attractive, safe and secure play areas.

In both Nursery and Reception children work towards the Early Learning Goals in what is known as the Foundation Stage. Planning for learning in Early Years, as in Key Stage one and Key Stage two places the health, wellbeing and happiness of all children at the heart of our curriculum. The Early Years curriculum is regularly reviewed and developed to provide children with high quality learning experiences.

Working in partnership with the Bridge School the Early Years Unit supports the early identification of, and provision for, children with special educational needs and disabilities.

The Early Years unit also benefits from being a part of HLC Children’s Centre which brings childcare, Early Years learning, health and family support together for children aged 0 – 5 years.

Having a place in HLC Nursery does not automatically guarantee a place in HLC Reception Class. Telford and Wrekin operate an admissions policy which allocates places in Reception according to clear criteria. For more information about admissions please see the Telford and Wrekin website.
